The beginning
of the project It all began when we found some plastic bogs in the loft of a house in Mopti in northern Mali. The bags contained what was left of negatives from Hamadou Bocoum's career as a photographer. His sons had taken over the studio and had needed more space. In the sacks were pictures from days gone by: a part of Mali's history, which it is important to preserve for posterity. We found one lovely picture after another. Eventually, I borrowed a large number of negatives, which I brought with me to Denmark, where I restored them and made the first exhibition prints.
